The North Star Scholarship was created by, and is funded by, maritime personal injury attorney David J. Saltaformaggio of Salta Law in order to provide financial assistance to mariners, who seek to advance their position through maritime training. Salta Law is a law firm committed to advocating on behalf of injured vessel crew members.
A scholarship winner will be chosen randomly on the first of every month; the winner will be awarded $1,000 toward courses of the seaman's choosing at any of our participating maritime training partners.

Salta Law believes that vessel crew members are some of the hardest working and most deserving employees in the entire marine and energy industry. Their jobs and the work they do are vital not only to the U.S. economy, but to the global economy as well.
The North Star Scholarship was created to help current or aspiring Jones Act seamen, who seek to advance their careers in these critical industries, and to contribute to their ongoing success by offering financial assistance towards maritime training at numerous training facilities across Louisiana and Texas.
The North Star was historically used a navigational tool by mariners due to its consistent position in the sky. The North Star also has important symbolic meaning as a beacon of inspiration and hope. Given this history, we named our maritime training scholarship after the North Star.
